For many, today’s workplace can be like a raging storm – a set of forces that can literally sweep you off your game and take you to a place you really don’t want to be!
In our current work environment there is one undeniable truth that has given rise to one unavoidable challenge – innovation and technology are changing the nature of work. According to the most recent Pew Research: The State of American Jobs (October 2016) the fastest growing jobs, the ones which pay well and are more secure, are those jobs that require not just more education, but more specific social and analytical skills.
This confirms the challenge just noted. Organizations are changing and shifting — but individuals need to keep up too. The good news is that Pew also found that most in the workplace realize this need for ongoing and continual personal growth — and they take responsibility for it. If you are someone who’s in this group, you already know you have to learn and grow and become more “savvy” — not just smart.
To succeed in today’s workplace you need to focus immediately on four absolutely critical actions!
- Commit to continual learning.
- Develop self-leadership and management.
- Be easy to work with.
- Be a coach – to yourself and others. And, be coachable too.
Prepare in all these ways and when you do you’ll discover new and better ways to rise above the fray and thrive in today’s complex, fast-paced, challenging — but always exciting — workplace!
